About Me

me54I made my first quilt 20 years ago. Much of the time since then has been spent making traditional quilts which served to hone my technical skills. These quilts proved to be the perfect creative outlet for a stay at home mom of four. I had my first quilt published in a national quilting magazine in 1995. Since then I have had more than 40 of my works published in various quilting magazines.

Although I still enjoy making traditional quilts, in recent years the bulk of my work has taken a decided turn away from the traditional. Rather than create my own version of what someone else has done, I am working toward using the techniques I have learned to produce something new.

The creation of these pieces is a means to explore an idea and the quilt itself becomes the culmination of discovery.  Many pieces are records of spiritual growth and revelation. Sometimes one idea cannot be completed in a single quilt and a series is born.

It is not my desire to tell a complete story but to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions. I hope that my work causes the viewer to stop and ponder, to wonder a bit, to ask questions, to see something meaningful beyond the surface.  I believe a truly beautiful piece of art will not only capture the gaze but will stir the spirit as well.

One word on irons–I have a Sussman, a professional iron. These irons are very heavy and gravity fed, that is the water bot. is hung 3 ft. overhead. Mine is at least 12 yrs. old with no problems. The disadvantage is that that make s it stationary. It’s easy to clean. No spitting!

Hi, Katy – I saw from my blog stats that someone here had mentioned my name, so I thought I would say hello. I like what you’ve said above about using your knowledge and skills to move off in new directions. That’s what’s kept me afloat ever since I started quilting. I think we can safely call ourselves “conceptual artists,” don’t you?

Anyway, it’s very nice to meet you – nice blog, too!
